KPN may be interested in whole KPNQwest network

AMSTERDAM, July 1 (Reuters) - KPN Telecom said on Monday it might be interested in bidding for the entire network of bankrupt telecoms firm KPNQwest .

"We might be interested in the whole network," a KPN spokesman told Reuters.  KPN, a founder of KPNQwest and major shareholder, had previously said it was only interested in buying parts of the 25,000 km network, the largest in Europe.

KPNQwest administrator Jan van Apeldoorn said he was not aware that KPN wanted to buy the whole network. "I haven't talked to them this morning," he said.

Administrators have rejected an offer for the entire network from Dutch venture fund Trimoteur, which had been the only remaining bidder for the full system.

I think they are talking about KPN buying the whole KPNQwest Network which does not include Ebone the best part which Oakleigh will hopefully get very soon.

Any comments on this from www.reuters.com:

BRUSSELS, July 1 (Reuters) - The Belgian employees of bankrupt KPNQwest U color=#0000ffKQIP.AS/U will abandon their site later on Monday afternoon, a union official said on Monday.

"At 1700 (Belgian time) we will leave the company," union official Henrik Vermeersch told Reuters, adding that the departure would likely throw into disarray the key Belgian link of Europe's largest data network.

Vermeersch said that there was no clarity on a possible acquirer of the network.

Two weeks ago the Belgian employees reached an agreement to continue staffing the link until July 1.

The agreement stipulated that 40 employees would be paid until July 1.

No, it has nothing to do with the KPN stuff which just came up. The people from Oakley visited the NOC late in the afternoon today and went to The Netherlands to cover all aspects of the deal.

If the deal isn't finished by 17:00, people will all leave the NOC and go for a drink. The network will not be shut down but if we don't get new contracts, we won't work any further (not even to shut the network down)
